Amma’s birthday was celebrated with great zest and fervor at Amrita Vidyalayam, New Delhi. The preparations had begun a month prior wherein each student donated different articles in order to help the impoverished section of the society. On 27 September, a group of students, accompanied by teachers and parent-volunteers, visited an orphanage and a school for the underprivileged children. Books, notebooks, crayons, pencils and other stationery items brought joy in the languid eyes of the pupils. In Amma’s ashram at Vasant Kunj, a number of families, which are struggling to meet the ends, were invited and they received rice, pulses, oil and many other essential articles donated by the Amritians. The inhabitants of an accommodation meant for the children with special needs were overjoyed to get food items lovingly contributed by their privileged counterparts. In addition to these, the green warriors of Amrita Vddyalayam, New Delhi, also took part in a plantation drive and planted saplings in and around the school premises.
All the scholars unanimously admitted that they would never forget the joy that they attained by sharing their riches. They have even vowed to continue such acts of philanthropy in the days to come.
