Just as the moon shines by reflecting light from the sun, disciples can attract spiritual wisdom from their gurus and reflect the same.
The students and staff members of Amrita Vidyalayam, New Delhi, feel blessed to have a mentor who is admired all over the world as an icon of compassion and clemency. On the auspicious 27th of September, the school celebrated the birthday of Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi Devi with great fervor and zeal. The day was dedicated to providing yeoman service to the society and Mother Nature. The toddlers of the preprimary wing took part in a mass plantation drive and planted seedlings in and around the school. Students from the primary wing lovingly made greeting cards and other decorative items to mark the special occasion. The seventh graders went to visit an old age home and carried for them goodies to bring a smile on those languid faces. They even went to visit a school for the destitute and spent quality time with them. The Amritians taught those students and also distributed essential stationery articles to facilitate the learning process. The middle school graders visited transit camps inhabited by daily wage earners and gave them rations collected from the school. A competition called AmritopanyasaPratiyogita was organized for grades VI to XII. Participants were first made to read Amma’s discourse, titled, ‘The Essence of Truth’ and then they had to answer a questionnaire based on the same. In a nutshell, the day was rife with glee, enriching activities and above all a sense of contentment derived from selfless service rendered to the insolvent stratum of the society.
